URBAN BALLET

Celebrating the everyday.

Urban Ballet celebrates the everyday. Showcases the extraordinary in the ordinary. Memorialises unplanned, unpredictable and fleeting moments and gives them a life of their own.

Urban Ballet is a limited series of 365 micro-clips shot in Berlin, Germany. When moving to Berlin, I was taken aback at first by the relative quietness of the city. Used to live in dense cities like Paris and New York, I felt disoriented. I was craving noise. I was craving movement. I was craving chaos.

To fill that void, I found myself subconsciously chasing movement everywhere around the city and recording it as a way to prove myself that the city was alive after all. The Urban Ballet series is the product of that scavenger hunt. It is a tribute to the movement that brings life to the city everyday.

If the movement in the city of Berlin is, in my view, more subtle than in cities like Paris or New York, it emerges from everywhere once you pay a closer look.

All 365 clips are meant to be juxtaposed and presented all on one screen/wall, materialising thus this interplay between micro-and-macro levels that is at the core of the enchantment of the urban experience. Urban Ballet is both an investigation of the relationship between individuals and their environment and an invitation for the viewer to connect with, pay attention to, celebrate and question the ordinary.
